Who We Are

Since its inception in 1978, Black River Produce’s focus has been distributing quality locally grown product throughout New England. We partner with over 600 growers and producers with a team of over 200 employees. We take pride in the underlying, but central role, we play as the fresh connection between regional producers and our over 3,000 wholesale customers. We’ve grown considerably since our early days, but we’re still driven by the things that mattered to us then—our family of employees, the greater community, and environmental stewardship.

At Black River Produce, we like to think we offer the perfect mix of big and small. At our core, we are a small Vermont company with all of the relaxed-and-friendly you would expect from a company founded by two ski-buddies selling produce out of their van back in 1978.

Fast-forward to today where we are fortunate to have the backing of one of the nation's premier foodservice companies, Performance Foodservice. As an independent operating company of Performance Foodservice, Black River Produce offers some of the best benefits, training and career advancement opportunities in the industry.

Black River Produce has been a pivotal part of the local agricultural community in Vermont for more than 45 years. Connecting local farmers with area chefs and retail markets is what we do. If our customers and suppliers are our cherished neighbors, then our employees are beloved family. We hope you will consider applying for one of our open jobs and that you'll be a member of our family soon.
